Celebrate Tennessee Williams’ Legacy at the Key West Festival

If you’ve ever dreamed of immersing yourself in the world of a literary giant while soaking up the charm of an island paradise, the Tennessee Williams Key West Festival is calling your name.

March marks the 114th birthday of Tennessee Williams, the legendary playwright behind A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Williams called Key West home for more than 30 years, often crediting the island’s tranquil yet inspiring atmosphere for fueling his creativity.

This month-long celebration, organized by the Key West Art & Historical Society, is packed with engaging events. Dive into his world with guided museum tours (March 7 & 14), explore the island’s Williams-related haunts on the aptly named “A Trolley Tour Named Desire,” and enjoy classic film screenings at Tropic Cinema. Art lovers can take part in a plein air painting challenge, while literature buffs can join writing contests and staged readings.

And of course, what’s a party without cake? The festival wraps up on March 26 with a birthday bash at the Tennessee Williams Museum.

So, whether you're a theater aficionado, history buff, or just love a good island getaway—this is your excuse to pack your bags. Key West awaits!
