The Key West Literary Seminar returns for its 42nd year, inviting literature enthusiasts to explore the theme of “Family” with a lineup of 20 distinguished American and international authors. This four-day literary celebration promises a rich blend of solo and paired readings, lectures, and panel discussions, all designed to provoke thought and foster community. Headlined by celebrated author John Irving, known for his iconic novel The World According to Garp, the Seminar offers attendees the opportunity to engage with literary greats in an intimate and inspiring setting.
Seminar Highlights
The Seminar kicks off on Thursday, January 9, 2025, with the John Hersey Memorial Address delivered by John Irving, followed by a gala reception at the stunning Audubon House & Tropical Gardens. The weekend’s programming includes:
- Engaging Presentations: Solo readings, thought-provoking lectures, and dynamic panel discussions featuring authors such as Paul Harding and Nathan Hill.
- Interactive Opportunities: Q&A sessions, book signings, and informal gatherings to connect with the authors and fellow attendees.
- Public Events: A Sunday afternoon session open to the public, ensuring accessibility for everyone to experience the magic of the literary arts.

Workshop Program Overview
Running in parallel with the Seminar is the Workshop Program, offering a hands-on experience for aspiring and established writers alike. Scheduled from January 5–9, 2025, the program features:
- Exclusive Workshops: Eight to ten small-group workshops led by renowned instructors, with a maximum of 12 participants per class.
- Tailored Learning: Options for both “All Levels” and “Advanced” participants, with advanced workshops requiring a writing sample.
- Immersive Experiences: Highlights include a sunset sail, faculty readings, and a welcome reception under the stars.
Workshop Pricing: $675
- $300 deposit required upon acceptance
- Remaining balance due by September 30
Workshop Schedule Highlights:
- Sunday, January 5: Registration and optional tour of the Elizabeth Bishop House
- Monday, January 6: Workshops begin, followed by “Writers on Writing” faculty readings
- Tuesday, January 7: Optional sunset sail on the Argo Navis
- Thursday, January 9: Final sessions and farewell luncheon
