Where: Higgs Beach, 1000 Atlantic Blvd, Key West, FL 33040

The College of the Florida Keys' annual Swim Around Key West, a 12.5-mile open-water swimming race, offers a unique aquatic journey around the scenic island of Key West. Scheduled for June 17th, the event traverses both the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, presenting an exciting spectacle of local wildlife and aquatic life. It invites both solo swimmers and relay teams of two to six participants, who may compete with or without fins, monofins, or mermaid tails. The event, endorsed by the World Open Water Swimming Association, starts at Higgs Beach, with check-in at 7am and the race commencing at 8am. Swimmers have the responsibility of arranging their own escort craft, such as a kayak or motorboat, while the course is monitored by stationed lifeguards for safety. Alternative races, ranging from 800 yards to 6.2 miles, are available for those preferring shorter challenges. Registration is open until June 16th, and the fee varies based on race type and team size. In addition, a mermaid show is scheduled for June 16th, offering a chance for transformation into a mermaid or merman post-show.
